This church rewards the owner of an Ordnance Survey map. A scant few stones throws from the Avebury Swindon road the church is to be found by following an overgrown track off a narrow country lane. A simple structure now maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust.
There has been a church at Berwick Bassett since the early 12'th century, though the current structure of St Nicholas dates from the 13'th century (chancel) and 14'th (nave). The Chancel was refaced in brick during the 18'th century and the church significantly restored in the 19'th century. Inside is a 15'th century carved screen and a 13'th century font.
A simple and appealing structure set in a well kept churchyard and overlooked by a former manor house. It well repays a visit. The church is normally open.
