Set amidst the headwaters of the river Kennet and close to Avebury and the Ridgeway is this well situated parish. The church of St Katherine and St Peter sits in a well sized graveyard on the west of the village, with mature trees to the south and a young hedge to the west.
There is documentary record of a church here in/before 1121, when it was gifted to Lewes priory. The current church dates primarily from the 14'th century with the addition of a 15'th century tower. It forms a substantial and well maintained structure with a relatively lofty nave and well detailed chancel. Within the church are a number of fine memorials and a 13'th century font.
In the 16'th century the church held a dedication to St Catherine, though by the early 19'th century it was known as St Peters. The current dedication to St Katherine and St Peter dates from 1904.
A fine building to visit, both to enjoy the peace and to study the memorials. This church is obviously a well loved member of its community. The church is usually open.
